Why I am Re-Candidating to the SEMPO Board of Directors

I am very passionate with things I love, and one of those surely is search marketing. I got involved with the search industry almost by chance in 2002 after many years in interactive marketing, but I got immediately hooked with search, and with a community of search marketers that built “a family” beyond the industry, to which SEMPO [1], the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization is “home”. And definitely one of the “things I love”.

For those who don’t know my involvement with the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, I have always been committed to SEMPO’s international growth since we launched back in 2003. All my commitment at SEMPO has always focused on the organization’s local governance plan, the international growth that is now evolving into an autonomy plan for many local SEMPO chapters worldwide.

Over the last years, I covered several Chair positions within the organization, such as for GLOBAL Committee [3], SEMPO Europe [4] and the now under restyling SEMPO Latino Working Groups, helping several local Working Groups around the world getting started with their own local plans. And of course I am an active member and big supporter of local Working Groups such as SEMPO Spain [5] and SEMPO Italy [6].

I am currently serving the SEMPO Board of Directors [7] after being elected in March 2007 (one year term), then again in March 2009 (two years term). Over the last years the SEMPO Board accomplished several strategic goals, especially in the areas of education, research, value for the membership, industry networking and strategic partnerships in the online and media spaces.

Serving at the Board for the past few years has been a great experience, as we addressed many strategic topics in search marketing, and I believe we strongly contributed to the “culture of search” worldwide.

Another important aspect of serving at the SEMPO Board of Directors is the unique opportunity to be part of a group where some of the most acute thinkers in search were sitting around a table – meeting tables but also dinner tables and a lot of personal and fun interaction. It has been a privilege for me to discuss search with real search guru such as Bruce Clay [8], Bill Hunt [9], Gord Hotchkiss [10], Dana Todd [11], Kevin Lee [12] and more others over the years, and I have surely learn a lot from them all – thank you!

Why I am re-candidating to the SEMPO Board of Directors for the third time? Because I believe I can contribute more to the Board, deliver more to the organization and its community, and provide value to the search industry worldwide. This year we have a number of international candidates running for the Board so I hope that many of us “global people” will get enough votes in order to make a real change with the larger international representation our organization ever had at the Board of Directors.

I’m planning on keep focusing on SEMPO’s local governance plan, supporting both SEMPO members and the SEMPO Board of Directors pursuing the global growth of our organization and community, and my intention is to input with the same committed, collaborative, passionate and creative energy I always offered to SEMPO.

Read also what the other Directors of the SEMPO Board say on Facebook about their SEMPO Board experience [13]. Another good read is the article Gord Hotchkiss, who didn’t renew his candidacy this year, wrote as farewell to SEMPO [14].

Keep supporting SEMPO, and thank you again for supporting me as a Board candidate!
